The worm has turned, gentlemen!

Hi there. A few days ago there was a "Tronify everything' Photoshop contest on Kotaku. TF2 has been one of my favorite games of all times, and I submitted a Tronified version of TF2 image. Surprisingly, many people liked it, and so I decided to make a Tron skin pack for TF2. So here is the first release of the TF2Tron skin pack. This contains Tronified skins for all nine classes for both the teams. Only classes, not buildings, weapons or non-stock hats. The next release will probably have them. Ok, enough talk, here is a quick video of how these look in the game:

Feel free to suggest if they can be improved any further. I personally feel that the Pryo has been a bit overdone, and the textures are blurry on a few parts on some classes. I still have a lot to figure out on the vtf compression formats and few other things. Anyways, I'll fix them in the next release.

  2. Very nice. Is do the red/blue accents glow? If not you really need to add that in to really get the tron feel. Otherwise it's just black with red/blue outlines.

  3. This is so awesome! Please do more!

(I'm somewhat impaired as far as detecting movement goes, and this lets me play the game a lot better)

  4. I downloaded it from the Alternate Link. I have a 'tf2tron v0.1.rar ' in my downloads file. What do I do with this? I don't know where to put it.

  6. I'd suggest doing something more with the Spy. Maybe a dull, scan-line effect across his clothes? The others have busy enough highlights that it's not too difficult to tell their teams (at least from the front), but the Spy's almost solid black.

  7. This is very relevant to my interests! During the artpass contest I was considering making a Tron-themed map as a joke, but I never got the time. I might consider Tronifying one of the maps, now, though...

If you don't mind, I'll go ahead and address the other commenters' questions:

Ben - Open it in Winzip, Winrar, or 7-Zip and extract the "players" folder to /steamapps/[your name]/Team Fortress 2/tf/materials/models.

Bilal - It should. It's just a set of texture files.

sheklerboi24 - They do not. It would be a fairly easy change to make, though, and you're right that it would be a good idea.

  8. Any chance you'll be releasing the model files as well so that we can upload them to our custom servers for use via things like mani admin plugin's skins ability?

Other than that its great work, can't wait to see what it'll be like if ya do the building stuff too! :-D

  9. I was wondering if i could get your permission to upload this to MODDB.com I will give you full credit of course and include links to this site if you could message me with your reply that would be wonderful. This is truly a great gift to the TF2 community certainly the best skin pack out there thank you very much.

  10. This is great for a start. In the next version I want to see new models to actually match the skins. Then gibs that look like shards of glass as to emulate being "derezzed".

  11. This is really cool, but I agree that the pyro looks a bit overdone and it also looks like it may be dificult to tell what team the spy is on. I'd also say that in a black and white environment it might be hard to see the spy at all. That is an exceptional advantage to the spy and could cause balance issues

  12. If in HL2:Tron should be very interesting...

  13. This looks great! Can't wait to use the skins. It'll be awesome if you can get the weapons and buildings tronified!

  14. Really Cool!
I'm imagining a tron grid map, a payload race map, with the motocycle as the cart. hhehehjhee

  15. Their skin is still too "normal" to fit the tron-verse. I would suggest putting the saturation waaay down on their skin and putting a slight blue-grey tone to it.

This effect was obvious in the first tron movie, but much more subtle in legacy.

  16. Dude. This is amazing. I'm going to download it right now! Well done, keep up the great work! We Tron fans appreciate your work! :D

My suggestion: If you try to make the skins look more similar to the original film than Legacy, that would be awesome; however, you can always do both. ;D Thanks again man!

  17. @smaug: you can upload it to moddb.com as long as you credit me and the files are freely available to download to anyone from there.

@Calystos: i don't know much about dedicated server hosting, but these are just textures, so you probably need to copy them to the materials folder and force your clients to download them

@everyone else who commented: thank you for your comments and feedback, expect some good stuff for the next release

  18. I love it :D I think perhaps the blue/orange on those cylinder-things (flares maybe? whatever they are) on the front of pyro make it look like there's loads more colour. Maybe just outlines on those cylinders, rather than solid colour, would make it look less over done. I don't care man, it all looks awesome as it is

  19. Aye, I managed to get it figured out an am now trying to get it to work with either sourcemod plugin sm_skinchooser, or mani admin plugins skins feature. But might have to end up writing my own TF2 only plugin for sourcemod, since those ones are aimed mainly at CS an whatnot. But least now I know how to get it to get the skins an whatnot. Next stage, getting to figure out how to get it to use em without forcing it on users but rather just as an option. Say they get a selection menu to let em choose "skin packs" as such. If I get enough time an get it working right I'll let ya know incase others on here want it too, :-)

  20. Stumbled upon your mod.. weary nice skin.. Just tested it on my mac and it works - :D here is the path to the dir. where you have to put it.
    "/Users/"Your user"/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/"steam user name"/team fortress 2/tf/materials/models"

  21. Was just wondering, is it possible to create other coloured sets of these? EG, white, purple, etc? Like in both the original TRON and the new one they weren't just orange (well they called it "gold" on the light cycle grid, an some were red) an blue, but there were whites, and others.

If its easy enough to do I'd love to get em, cos am looking in to how to get mani's skins feature working, as it supposedly lets ya swap skins for all in one go an stuff, an if thats the case it'd be awesome to be able to pick an choose other coloured sets an stuff, :-D

If not, then no worries, but yeah awesome work! Loving it!

  22. Is there any chance that you will be doing the tron theme for css, for the t and ct models. I would really like that.

  23. Why not put discs on the back of players like tron. Ditch the regular clothing and have the glow move randomely not were there are already lines
